OUR PEOPLE

Back in 2000, a couple of Australians, James and Alex got together with a local climber Simon to form Chinaclimb.  Today the company has grown from its humble beginnings to over thirty strong during the peak seasons.

People are the key to any orginisation and without a doubt Chinaclimb's people is its biggest strength. You could say we are a mixed bunch, half from China while the other half range from an eclectic mix of countries from Finland to New Zealand as well as all the big ones in between. But as as a mixed bunch Chinaclimb's people bring with them a wide range of talents and different fields' of expertise. And when it comes down to it, our team all have common love when it comes to sharing outdoor adventures, having fun and supporting our community.

Within the Chinaclimb team lies an inner team, the best of the best, the veterans of the company. Most of these guys have been around to help contribute to make Chinaclimb what is now.

Meet The Team

  • Shu Shu - Although the cook, Shu Shu occassionally choses to untie his apron strings long enough to lead hiking trips. As it's longest serving employee Shu Shu is the epitome of Chinaclimb, flawlessly reliable, and always willing to share a smile and joke in discovering a new adventure.
  • Tommy - When it comes to Chinaclimb Tommy knows everything about the company and Yangshuo. Formerly Chinaclimb's longest serving employee Tommy is now taking a break from Chinaclimb to explore the world.
  • Aban - He really didn't think much of climbing when he joined Chinaclimb at the age of 16, choosing more just to hang out with the crew. These days Aban enjoys crushing boulder problems (sometimes using his feet instead of campusing), winning national climbing competitions and pushing his climbing grade in to 5.14.
  • Xiang - (a.k.a. Jack) is super solid and quickly established himself as the "results man". Quiet and demure Xiang will blow you away with his quick wit and can do attitude. Xiang is also off now playing in other parts of the world, come back soon Xiang!
  • Xiao Ou - When faced with the choice of pursuing a life in sociology or outdoor adventures, his descision was easily made. Xiao Ou has an incredible English vocabulary, which includes the most advanced words such as gastrointestinal.
  • Si - The roof top dweller and IT whiz, Si is instrumental in the day-to-day runnings of Chinaclimb. He also adds a strong flavour of sarcasm and humour.
  • Dave - a true champion of men, he is endlessly friendly, enthusiastic and humble. Dave loves climbing in all its forms and will never forego the opportunity to share with his friends.
  • Colton - Loves bouldering
  • Kristie - The carefree spirit determined to save the world with meditation, eating right, yoga and rock climbing. A flashy smile and stunning good looks teenage boys always find it difficult to say goodbye to at the end of the trip.
  • Tammy - Another vital member of the management team, she also has a love for pretty colours and snazzy designs.
  • Tyson - Tyson has the outward appearance of hard man, but it never takes students long to see through that. Tyson is also as bi-lingual as it gets
  • Scott - Sees himself as a film director and is a vital member of the management team.
  • Dan - This British lad helps to head up all the technical work regarding climbing and rigging.
  • Xiao Sun - Stolen from Sichuan and a career in mainstream TV, Xiao Sun is an awesome addition to the Chinaclimb posse.
  • Abi - Upfront and personal is her style. Abi is quickly learning the Chinaclimb ropes.
  • Xiao Sai - like any small boy he loves being outdoors. China is his new back yard and he wants to share it with you.
  • QQ - could also stand for cutie Q, his sweet, helpful and super psyched nature won him rookie of the year award 2006.
